The Sydney Swans are saddened to hear of the passing of a former player, Brent Green, aged 33, who drowned last Monday.

Green played for the Brisbane Lions before he played for the Swans. He was recruited by the then Bears as a 15-year-old in 1991 and made his senior debut in 1995. He was an inaugural member of the Brisbane Lions squad in 1997 before making the move south to the Swans in 1998. He played just the one season before retiring, playing 7 games and kicking 8 goals.

"We are shocked to hear of Brent's tragic death, it is always sad to hear of the loss of a young life but more so when it is someone you have met in your time in AFL football,” Swans Chief Executive Andrew Ireland said.

“I knew Brent from when I was working at the Brisbane Lions and he also played for the Sydney Swans.

“On behalf of everyone at the Swans, our sincere condolences go to Brent's family and his partner Joanne."
