An update on our current injury list, as provided by Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services Damian Raper, who provides an insight into Sam Naismith's current rehabilitation program following his AFL graft failure, along with an update on Chad Warner's return via the VFL.
Recap of Round 20 v Essendon
We managed to get through both AFL and VFL games without any significant injuries. Obviously, it was a pretty chaotic 24 hours for the squad, but they recovered well off the back of the flight down from Queensland on Saturday afternoon.
We had our VFL game on Sunday without any issues and then the AFL game as-well, however, we did have a little knock to Isaac's thumb but there's no significant concerns for him going into this weekend's game. All the boys got through well.
Chad Warner
Chad played his first game in the VFL after six weeks off with his fibula stress injury. He ran 10km for the game, but was just a little bit limited in the last quarter in terms of number of minutes.
He got through without any issues and we expect him to play a full game this weekend.
Sam Naismith
Sam Naismith stayed back in Sydney with our physiotherapy team that is there at the moment. He's continuing to work on his rehab and with his ACL graft failure, he now requires a two-part surgery as part of his revision.
The first part of his operation is to take out his old ACL and fill it with some bones - so they got additional bone and filled in the holes from the previous surgery.
He is having a three month recovery, doing some quad based strength work in the gym and also needs to continue to keep his hamstring strong.
