Sydney Swans leader Callum Mills says he has been impressed by the side’s willingness to get on with the job, dealing with the uncertainty and adversity that has been thrown at the side this season.

The Swans have relocated to Melbourne, spent a few weeks in Queensland before returning to Melbourne as the country deals with the ongoing Covid situation.

Mills was one of four players that was ruled out of the Round 18 clash with the GWS Giants last minute, forced to go into quarantine just moments before he was due to run out with his teammates.

Last week, ahead of the side’s victory over Essendon, the Swans relocated on game day to Victoria before coming away with a 9-point victory over their opposition in the rescheduled fixture the following day.

In a video provided to Swans members earlier this week, Mills spoke about the positive vibe amongst the playing group, and how the club are faring on the road as they move into the final three games of the 2021 season.

“It was a great win. Essendon are a really quality side and it was a bit of a whirlwind 24-hours before hand, but the boys were really professional and we were able to get the job done which was nice,” Mills said in an interview provided to Sydney Swans members earlier this week.

“They [my teammates] have been unbelievable. Just their willingness to handle any situation that has been thrown at us has been impressive and their willingness to get on with the job at hand has been nice as well.

“The results have been nice the last couple of weeks considering the adversity that has been thrown at us.”

Mills said that there it was very character building for the side and he was impressed with how the team manages to remain focused and confident despite the constant changing challenges.

“We just keep learning from every experience that gets thrown at us,” Mills said.

“It’s a unique time of living at the moment and we are just happy that we are together and playing some good footy.

“What has impressed me is our ability to get on with the job at hand and do it with a smile on our face.

“We have enormous confidence. Our starts haven’t been great the last couple of weeks, but the confidence to get back to our football when things aren’t going our way the first quarter has been really nice,” he added.

“But it would be nice to get off to a good start, so that is what we are going to focus on this week and hopefully we can execute.”
