Rising Star winner Callum Mills is a chance to return this season should the Sydney Swans progress beyond week two of the finals series.
The 19-year-old suffered a grade one hamstring strain during the second quarter of Saturday’s loss to the Giants.
General Manager of Football Tom Harley said Mills remains in contention to return this season.
“He won’t play this week but regardless there is a strain there,” Harley told SEN Radio.
“If he was able to get up for the following week that would be fantastic, but it would be ahead of the normal in terms of recovery.
“He is a young bloke who has young muscles so we are not putting the red pen through his name by any stretch.”
The short-term future of big man Kurt Tippett is not as clear after he suffered a non-displaced hairline fracture to his jaw.
Tippett will meet with specialists on Monday to determine the best course of action to treat his injury.
“He went through the concussion protocols, passed that, but did sustain a fractured jaw,” Harley said.
“Kurt clearly won’t play this week as he consults with a specialist this afternoon and we will internally discuss the best course of action ranging from nothing to surgery.”
Meanwhile Zak Jones will be monitored throughout the week after leaving the field with concussion late in Sunday’s NEAFL Grand Final.
