What did you take out of our round four match, Fantasy-wise?
Lotts: While it clearly wasn’t a good performance from the team it was encouraging to see a few guns – Josh Kennedy (MID $478,332) with 113 points, Nick Malceski (DEF $434,639) with 112 points and Jarrad McVeigh (DEF/MID $482,608) with 102 points – pull out their first ton for the year. Hopefully there’s plenty more of them to come!
Sub-elite Legends: The sloppy, wet conditions in round four were another cause for concern for Fantasy coaches across the land, with many players struggling to rack up the possessions in horrid conditions. There weren’t many shining fantasy lights for the Swans, although I’m quietly pleased with the ongoing consistency of Luke Parker (FWD/MID $470,094) who is currently in the top 5 for total points scored by forwards.
Who’s your Swans player of the week?
Lotts: I’ve got to go with Luke Parker (FWD/MID $470,094) again this week who backed up his against Adelaide with a score of 94 – he narrowly missed a goal so he could have had another century to his name. Parker is now the Swans’ highest scoring Fantasy player this year averaging 96 points a match. The fact you can pick him up as a forward is just the icing on the cake.
Sub-elite Legends: I was happy to see Josh Kennedy (MID $478,332) score a healthy 113 on the weekend. He hasn’t missed a game since coming to the club, and averaged over 100 points a game across the entire 2012 season, so he is the definition of a blue-collar Fantasy option if you have had some troubles with speculative picks in the early part of the season.
Which Swans player will you choose as your captain for the Freo game?
Lotts: I’m not having much luck predicting a captain this year, but saying that, I’m going to give it another try and go for Josh Kennedy this week. Joey is one of the most consistent players in the competition so he should hopefully be a safe choice. He scored his first ton last week and has a good track record against Freo scoring 94, 135 and 136 in his last three matches against them.
Sub-elite Legends: I have to agree with you there, Kennedy is probably the safest bet this week with his good track record and building form. Kieren Jack fired up when speaking to the press this week so he is another one who could jump out of the blocks this week for me.
Next up is Fremantle at the SCG; who are the players to look out for from the Dockers?
Lotts: The Dockers have stars all over the ground and will no doubt be a tough challenge for the team this week. They’ve got a number of premiums in their side and they’ll get another boost with the return of gun Nat Fyfe (MID $495,896) from suspension. Fyfe is one of the stars of the competition and comes at a very attractive price. In not so good news for us, he normally plays pretty well against the Swans scoring 103 and 116 in his two matches against us last year.
Sub-elite Legends: There has been some debate in recent weeks about the importance of dominant ruckman in the AFL. This is not even a question in the Fantasy world, where racking up big hit-out numbers equals Fantasy gold. Fremantle’s Aaron Sandilands (RUC $375,512) is the dominant ruckman of the competition and can match it as the 2nd highest scoring ruck so far in 2014. He is very much one to look out for.
Any changes this week for your team?
Lotts: This year I went with the cheap ruck combination of Sandilands (RUC $375,512) and Brodie Grundy (RUC $328,117) and while it started off pretty well – especially on the back of Sandy – last week was not so good for Grundy who was subbed out with 29 points to his name. So he’ll be out of my team this week and I’ll replace him with another cheapie who is building form in Geelong’s Hamish McIntosh (RUC $350,589). I’ve also got Pearce Hanley (DEF/MID $466,549) in my side who has done a hammy so he’ll go this week for Sam Mitchell (DEF/MID $504,298), who I had originally but traded out in Round 2 when he withdrew from the match. He has scored 121 and 122 since then so probably not my best move!
Sub-elite Legends: This week I decided to bring in Nick Riewoldt. I had picked Charlie Dixon in my forward line as a point of difference and to offer ruck support if I needed, but with the indefinite nature of his injury he had to go. Big Rooey is in incredible form, so fingers crossed he can score well for the Legends in round five.
