Josh Kennedy is feeling a sense of excitement on the eve of his first finals series as captain.
In a changing of the guard, Kennedy took over the role from co-captains Kieren Jack and Jarrad McVeigh at the end of last season and has led from the front as his side overcame a 0-6 start to finish sixth and be right in the mix this September.
Having emerged from the league-wide week off, the 29-year-old midfield star couldn’t hide his eagerness for the finals to kick off when quizzed by reporters on Monday.
“It is going to be a pretty exciting September no doubt,” Kennedy told reporters on Monday afternoon.
“We just have to make sure we are playing good footy for four quarters.”
Kennedy said he did not feel any extra level of expectation heading into this September due to the title, saying his vice-captains and the leadership group have helped shoulder the load.
“I feel the same responsibility that I have in previous years,” he said.
“To be able to play well and take confidence in the leadership group and senior players around us.
“It is going to take every one of us to get it done it certainly won’t be one player that will get it done.”
The Swans' turn around in form this season is set to give them a boost in confidence heading into Saturday’s elimination final against Essendon.
“One thing that will hold us in good stead is that if we are a little bit off we know we can get rolled by anyone," Kennedy said.
"But on the flip side if we play our best footy we know we can beat anyone so that element in keeping us on edge will keep us in good stead.
“It is one thing to be able to stand here and say it and another to actually get out there and do it.”
