Head of Physiotherapy and Medical Services Damian Raper provides an update on Tom Hickey, Tom Papley, Justin McInerney, Robbie Fox and Colin O’Riordan heading into our Round 4 clash against North Melbourne.
General overview
After three games and short turnarounds between fixtures, the players have pulled up relatively well. Obviously, the biggest injury concern was Tom Hickey, while there were a few players who sustained corks throughout the game, such as Lance Franklin and James Rowbottom, but both have recovered well with the extended break and trained fully today.
Tom Hickey
Tom Hickey sustained a blow to the outside of his knee and has suffered a high grade medial ligament injury. At this point, he will be in a brace for at least the next two weeks and as John mentioned, we can’t see him returning within the next six weeks.
Justin McInerney
Justin McInerney has been going really well following his knee sprain. He was close to playing on the weekend but unfortunately just missed out. He will be a test for this weekend and we expect him to be available for selection.
Tom Papley
Tom Papley’s rehabilitation is progressing well. He is running really well but hasn’t made it to full training yet, but can hopefully commence training next week.
Robbie Fox
It’s been a week since Robbie Fox sustained a hamstring strain. It has settled well and had his first run today, and we will look to build his running over the next few weeks.
Colin O’Riordan
Colin O’Riordan sustained a poke to the eye in our VFL match against Footscray in Round 1. He is under the care of a specialist – is resting and not doing any activity.
He will be reviewed next week to hopefully get him back into training.
