Sydney Swans key Kurt Tippett plans to eke as much out of the coming weeks as possible in an effort to regain the fitness and conditioning needed to be a big contributor in this year's finals series.
Tippett made his senior comeback in Saturday's clash with North Melbourne following an eight-week layoff with an injured hamstring tendon, playing a total of 75 minutes in the narrow win at Hobart's Bellerive Oval.
He split that time between the forward line and relieving Sam Naismith in the ruck to gather 11 disposals, three marks and 17 hit outs.
While his form wasn't quite at the level seen before his Round 12 setback, Tippett believes he'll be able to regain that touch by making the most of the three-week training block - plus this weekend's Round 23 clash with Richmond - in the lead up to the Sydney Swans' first final next month.
"I don’t have a minute to waste at this stage of the season,” Tippett told the Daily Telegraph post-match, reiterating how hard he's worked to get to this point.
"I’ve done as much as I possibly can. There is no stone we left unturned during the nine weeks I was training. I take confidence out of that.
"Each week from here it will get a little bit easier and I’ll be able to play more minutes.
"There’s a lot of improvement left. With the excitement (of playing again) comes a few nerves, you want to try to get into it and get back into good form as soon as you can.
"If I keep training and working hard that stuff will come.”
Tippett's importance to the side extends further than what's written on the stats sheet.
"It was awesome having him back out there, he's just a big presence and even if he doesn't do a lot he gets the guys up," Dan Hannebery told SwansTV in the rooms post-match.
"I thought he was snesational for us today. He really competed hard, he's trained his backside off, he really looks after himself and sets the standard in that area."
The 28-year-old will build on his promising comeback in Saturday's final-round meeting with Richmond at the SCG.
