Luke Parker and Trent Dennis-Lane have been named in the Sydney Swans side that will take on the Gold Coast Suns at Metricon Stadium on Saturday night.

Parker will play his first senior game since fracturing his collarbone in the round 10 win over the Western Bulldogs.

Swans coach John Longmire said Parker, who has spent the past two matches in the reserves, was ready to make his return to senior football.

“(Luke) is a player who was playing really well for us before he got injured,” Longmire told SwansTV.

“He has spent some time out with his shoulder and has done a lot of running.

“He has played a couple of (reserves) games now and we feel he’ll get better and better the more games he plays in the seniors.”

Dennis-Lane, who has played five senior games this season, will also return to the Swans team this week following impressive form in the NEAFL.

“Trent Dennis-Lane comes in and he’s been working really hard in our reserves, and he’s also a player who was a bit unlucky to go out in the first place,” Longmire said.

“He comes back into the team this week and we know he can kick a goal, and his pressure skills have improved enormously so that’s what we’re hoping he brings.”

The Swans coach said he is hopeful both Parker and Dennis-Lane will make the most of their return to senior football this weekend against the Suns.

“I think it’s a matter of giving them a chance,” he said.

“Trent has played senior football already this year, then went out of the side, and has been playing really well in the reserves, so he just comes back in and will hopefully play well, and Luke was in the team earlier on in the year.

“You’ve got to make sure that when these players get their chances that they come in and play well and grab it with both hands.

“That’s what we’re looking forward to seeing from both players this week.”

Shane Mumford (knee) and Andrejs Everitt (omitted) are the two players to make way for Parker and Dennis-Lane.

Longmire said he expected Everitt, who has played as the Swans sub in the past two matches, will bounce back in the reserves match this weekend.

“Obviously with Everitt playing the sub a couple of times, you need to make sure (players) don’t do that for too long or too many weeks in a row,” he said.

“Now he needs to get a good four-quarter hit-out under his belt and hopefully that will put him back up and in line for senior selection straight away if he’s able to do that.”

Longmire added that Mike Pyke and utility Lewis Roberts-Thomson will share the load in the ruck in Mumford’s absence.

“(Zac) Smith has been doing a lot of the ruck work for the Gold Coast, and whilst they’ve got another couple of tall blokes, he’s been doing most of the ruck work,” Longmire said.

“Pykey has been doing a fair bit of the ruck work for us too, so he’ll do a bit more for us this weekend.

“Lewis Roberts-Thomson obviously is able to do it as well, which is a similar setup to what we had earlier this year.”
