Hanners will provide a boost: Shaw
Defender Rhyce Shaw says the likely inclusion of Dan Hannebery will provide a boost for the Swans midfield
After missing six matches with an ankle syndesmosis injury, Hannebery is expected to come back into the side this week and play his first match since round 13, coincidentally also against the Power.
Shaw, who returned last week from a syndesmosis injury himself, said Hannebery’s inclusion would be a huge benefit for the Swans.
“We did miss him,” Shaw told media at the SCG on Thursday.
“Hanners is a top-quality player and he’s All-Australian.
“You saw in (the 2012) Grand Final what kind of impact he can have, and I know that was two years ago, but he’s a fantastic player, and he played well against last year.
“Not to have him in the side has been tough, but the guys have been playing really well, so to have him come in is only another asset for us.”
Shaw, who missed four matches with his ankle injury, worked closely with Hannebery in rehabilitation, and said he was confident the 23-year-old would come back bigger and better this week.
“We worked really hard, and Hanners was working just as hard as I was,” he said.
“He’s just taken a little bit longer, but he’s got it right and he’s 100 per cent and he’s going to put on a good showing this week.”
The Swans are also likely to regain the services of key forward Lance Franklin, who missed last week’s win over Essendon with knee soreness.
Shaw said Franklin, who was the match-winner against Port Adelaide in round 13 with the Swans’ last five goals, was looking forward to another challenge against the Power.
“Bud has hit some really good form of late,” he said.
“I know he missed last week, but he’s in a really good frame of mind and is really looking forward to the challenge of playing each week.
“Hopefully he can put up another good performance this week.”
Saturday night’s match at Adelaide Oval is nearly a sell-out, with more than 50,000 fans expected to turn out.
Shaw said the Swans didn’t feel daunted about playing in front of the Port Adelaide home crowd, and instead were looking forward to challenging the Power on their home deck.
“We went over there earlier in the year and played Adelaide and it was a great atmosphere and by all reports it’s getting better and better as the games go on over there,” he said.
“We’re just looking forward to a great game against Port, who are a really good side.
“They play really hard, tough footy, and work really hard.
“They are really well drilled and we’re looking forward to coming up against that again, especially over there, and hopefully getting the four points.”
