Swans duo Ryan O’Keefe and Rhyce Shaw are both a chance of playing this weekend after resuming training over the last week.

O’Keefe had been sidelined with bone bruising following a training incident four weeks ago, while Shaw had been battling a back injury.

Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron said the outlook for both O’Keefe and Shaw is positive and expects both players to push for selection this week.

“They are both going well,” he said.

“Ryan started training late last week, so he is going to do a full training load this week, so he’s looking good to play.

“Rhyce started training today, he was out with his back injury.

“We’re hoping they are both going to get up.”

Luke Parker also resumed light training today, still nursing a fractured jaw from his clash with GWS veteran James McDonald in round one.

In other injury news, Cameron said that big man Mike Pyke is making a speedy recovery from a knee injury suffered in round one.

He said Pyke has already returned to the track, but there is still a question mark over his fitness for this weekend’s match.

“Mike hurt his posterior cruciate ligament in his knee and he’s actually back running, and started running this week but will be touch and go for this weekend,” he said.

“If he continues to improve he’ll be a chance of being able to train Thursday and play, but he remains in doubt.”

Young Swans Jordan Lockyer and Tom Mitchell are also making good progress from their respective injuries.

“Jordan Lockyer, who is a young guy, new to the club this year, did most of the pre-season but has got a bit of knee tendonitis a couple of weeks ago,” Cameron said.

“Things have settled down and he is likely to start training on Thursday.

“Tom Mitchell has been training now for a couple of weeks, and we’re hoping that if his training goes according to plan then he’s going to be able to resume in the next week or two.”
