Sydney Swans coach John Longmire addressed the media at the SCG on Monday.
Sydney is set to face the Geelong Cats at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Here are some key quotes from the press conference.
Josh Kennedy’s loss (knee)
“Josh will be out until after the bye, so he’ll be out for another couple of weeks. He’s obviously out this week, we expect him to be out next week as well and he’ll then probably come back after the bye. He’s a quality player, we take on Geelong in Geelong without him this week and what a wonderful challenge for our team. We’d rather him playing, the reality is he’s not, we can’t do much about it, we’ll get on with it and another player comes in.”
Daniel Menzel’s selection chances
“He had a quiet first half in the NEAFL on the weekend and then his second half was good. We’ll sit down this week, work out what the mix of our team looks like, work out how his form over the four quarters looked and make a decision from there. He’s not in the team just yet; we’ll have to sit down and have a look at what the mix of the side looks like.”
Prospect of Lance Franklin, Sam Reid and Menzel all playing together
“We knew in the off-season that we’d like to get to the point of having Lance, Sam and Dan all playing in the forward line together. It hasn’t worked for various reasons with injuries and players being out. It was terrific to see Sam’s form on the weekend and it’d be good if he can show that form over the coming weeks. He was fantastic on the weekend.”
Bouncing back from Collingwood loss
“We’ve just got to make sure that we use what we did well to propel ourselves forward. We understand there were two three-minute blocks where they were able to six kick goals, but we kept them to five goals outside that for the rest of the game. So we did a lot right but there were a couple of small blocks where they were able to kick some goals in succession. We look at that, we look at what we did well and where we need to improve and we get ready to face the Cats.”
