The Sydney Swans are excited to confirm that 26 players from our inaugural team have recommitted to the red and white for the upcoming AFLW season.

The club also welcomed seven new players following the AFLW Sign and Trade period in Chloe Molloy, Lucy McEvoy, Laura Gardiner, Hayley Bullas, and promising Irish talents in Paris McCarthy, Jennifer Higgins, and Julie O'Sullivan.

The retention of key and emerging talent is a major show of loyalty following a historic first season in the women's competition, while the additions of Molloy, McEvoy, Gardiner and Bullas adds more than 120 games of AFLW experience.

Executive General Manager of Football – AFLW, Kate Mahony, said the club is enlivened by the talent that has been retained, and accrued, ahead the new campaign.

"We're thrilled to have a majority of our players remain in the red and white and they will only be better for the experiences shared together last year," Mahony said.

"The entire playing group and staff are aligned on the same path. While we're determined to succeed, we also have a willingness to work hard and strive to be better every day.

"We've added plenty of AFLW experience along with some really exciting young talent that will undoubtedly bolster our chances in 2023."

Among the players recommitting to Sydney were Montana Ham, Cynthia Hamilton, and Sofia Hurley – the top 3 in last year’s the AFLW Club Champion awards.

Co-captain Maddy Collier said the playing group is determined to build on last year’s campaign and are looking forward to recording their first win.

“We learned a lot last year and I felt as though we’re growing each and every day. The best thing we can do is keep working hard and making sure we’re doing everything possible to succeed,” Collier said.

“I’m really excited by some of the new players arriving at the club. They’re going to bring plenty of experience and I think their professionalism will have a big impact on all of us.”
