Swans travel to Melbourne for MCG clash

The Sydney Swans are set to take on Melbourne this weekend in a fiery clash at the MCG. The hotly-anticipated match comes after two impressive wins in the Gold Coast and at home against the Hawks.

Lance Franklin is expected to make a return after the likes of Logan McDonald and Joel Amartey stepped up as dominant forwards in last week’s game. The young duo scored nine goals between them and earned five and six coaches votes respectively.

John Longmire: There is no bigger challenge

Ahead of Round 3, senior coach John Longmire spoke with journalists in a mid-week press conference. When asked about this week’s opponent, Longmire described Melbourne as a challenging side. 

“We look at every week and there is no bigger challenge than the next game…. It is a big test, we are not shying away from that, we know it will be a tough one.”

Mills establishes early lead in Carey Bunton Medal

After two outstanding games to kick off 2023, Callum Mills has an early lead for the Carey Bunton medal. 

The midfielder and co-captain earned all 10 coaches votes in the Swans’ match against the Hawks last Sunday, with 28 disposals and two goals. 

Mills is joined by teammates Errol Gulden and Dane Rampe in the top three. See the full list here.

The Carey Bunton Medal is awarded by the NSW Australian Football History Society for the best player from NSW in the AFL this season.
