The result of our Round 1 game brought mixed emotions. It was frustrating to play four quarters, approximately 120 minutes of intense football, only to finish up pretty much in the same position on the scoreboard as when the game started.
Over the game we did some things well, while other things still need a lot of work.
It was a weird feeling when the siren went, and the song that played out over the MCG after the game only further dampened my mood.
As the draw grants no one the right to play their team song, someone at the AFL, (possibly the rule changes committee?) decided that Jimmy Barnes ‘No Second Prize’ should be the fitting “victory song” for a draw.
Not that this is a bad song, in fact I quite like the song, but it got me thinking: What else could they have played?
There’s a few obvious ones such as ‘Don’t Dream it’s Over’ by Crowded House. Also there’s ‘Dazed and Confused’ by Led Zeppelin, and ‘More Than This’ by Bryan Ferry.
However, through the medium of Twitter I received two of the best recommendations - ‘Everybody Hurts’ by REM, and ‘Let Down’ by Radiohead.
I asked my team-mates what songs they thought should be played. Tadhg recommended ‘Barbra Streisand’ by Duck Sauce, while Jude Bolton thought anything by his favourite artist Rick Astley would be good.
But we have to move on from the draw and get ready to play against Essendon this weekend.
Essendon is a team on the rise and cannot be underestimated. It’s on Sunday at ANZ Stadium at 2.10pm, and is our first home game for the year. Hope to see you there.

PS. On the topic of music and football, there’s a sensational re-mix of our team song done by Funk It Up who performed it after the game yesterday at a post game function. I highly recommend you have a look at it.
