With their backs against the wall being two men down on the bench it was the Swans young players that rose to the occasion.

The future of the red and white was well and truly on display on Friday night as Isaac Heeney, Gary Rohan, Tom Mitchell and Brandon Jack all performed strongly in a thrilling final quarter.

A five goal to two last quarter saw the Swans overcome the Magpies by 11 points in front of 38,408 fans at the SCG.

Mitchell was clearly the standout of the bunch on the stats sheet finishing with a career high 41 disposals and 8 tackles to go along with an important final quarter goal.

While Jack and Rohan did not have as much of an impact on the stats sheet they both played vital roles at pivotal moments in the game.

Jack’s two goals came at extremely important junctures in the game including the final goal of the game to seal the victory.

In his first game back from five weeks on the sideline through injury, Rohan stood up in the third quarter as all momentum went against the Swans.

He took two strong marks on the lead before bombing home two goals from outside the 50 metre arch.

Coach John Longmire was full of praise for the Swans young brigade following the win on Friday night.

"We think that it's blokes like Gary Rohan and Isaac Heeney and Tommy Mitchell and Brandon Jack, all played pretty important roles for us tonight as young kids.
