Senior coach John Longmire has named his side ahead of Sydney Derby XXV this Saturday after two tough rounds on the road.

The Sydney Swans will receive a welcomed injection of experience with Lance Franklin and Tom McCartin returning from injury this week. Franklin missed the clash with Richmond and the Cats due to a sore knee, while McCartin has recovered from a head knock in the fourth round. 

“It’s good to have Tommy and Lance back," Longmire told Swans TV, adding that the duo "had a good week on the training track and they’re looking forward to getting back in the team."

McCartin will play his 100th career game for the red and white after making his debut in 2018.

Young midfielder Angus Sheldrick also enters the team this week after blistering form in the VFL. The up-and-comer finished Round 5 against the Northern Bullants with 39 disposals and two goals to his name, which did not go unnoticed by the head coach. 

"Gus has been super in the next level down and a real competitor," Longmire continued.

"He goes really hard at the ball and sets a real standard as far as competing so it’s good to have him in the team as well.”

Matt Roberts was added to the injury list on Saturday night after suffering a medial ligament injury in the second quarter and will spend the next 8 - 10 weeks in a brace before being reassessed. Robbie Fox is currently being managed as per the AFL Concussion Guidelines following a knock to head in the same game.

The Swans are dialling in for another tough match this season. From the last 24 meetings with GWS, the red and white have prevailed with 15 wins. But the task ahead is not lost on Longmire. 

“[The Giants] have been in every game and really competitive and so we understand what they’re able to do," he said of the cross-town rivals.

"They’ve changed their style a little bit but ultimately, they have really good players all over the ground and they play a strong brand of footy.”

Errol Gulden will celebrate his 50th career game at the SCG this Saturday, as will Peter Ladhams (his 18th match for the Swans).
