Lynne McGranger is part of the Home and Away fabric and she’s very much part of the Sydney Swans’.
McGranger, who plays Irene Roberts on the famous long-standing Australian television series, began supporting the Swans about 20 years ago just after the widely-loved actor joined the Summer Bay cast.
A code convert, McGranger admitted to believing AFL was “just a bit of “aerial ping-pong” until she saw the light.
“I love my Swannies,” McGranger declared to sydneywans.com.au in the familiar surrounds of the Pier Diner.
“When we moved back to Sydney for the show I instinctively barracked for the Swans and I’ve been an avid supporter ever since.”
A lot can happen in two decades. Plenty has gone on at Summer Bay in that time while McGranger’s beloved Swans have created some memorable moments of their own.
But none pulls at the heart strings more than Leo Barry’s mark in the 2005 premiership win.
“That was the most heart-stopping, unbelievable moment,” she said.
“When you see the stills his eyes are closed…it was like a gift from God, God has just gone ‘there you go, there’s the ball’.
“It was just amazing.”
McGranger could have spent hours reeling off her favourite moments, about the time she took to pluck a favourite player from the bevy.
“That’s like asking what your favourite ice-cream is” she said.
“I love so many of them but I would have to say Goodsey…he’s been such a huge part of the club’s ethos, power and strength.
“He’s just a gorgeous human being.”
