The result has seen the club fall to a one-and-three record after four rounds and 13th place on the AFL ladder.
Speaking from the Swans’ recovery session on a wet and windy Monday morning at Clovelly Beach, Jack said his team struggled with the basics in Sunday’s match and could not match it with the Kangaroos, who surged home with a six-goal final term.
“It’s obviously still pretty raw, but it was very disappointing,” Jack said.
“It was our first game at the SCG and we were up against a good opposition and we just played some poor footy.
“There were just some basic skill errors and we didn’t play wet weather footy, which was disappointing because we’ve played in the wet a couple of times.
“There were balls going over the ball, fumbles, missed tackles and just some real core basics that we’ve prided ourselves on and we didn’t bring it.”
Jack said the Swans’ poor performance on Sunday was a major blow, particularly after the club’s 63-point win over the Crows in round three.
The midfielder said he felt the side had turned a corner last week in Adelaide after losing the opening two rounds, making Sunday’s loss even more frustrating for the club.
“It was a bit of a shock because against Adelaide we really made some inroads and the vision we saw really gave us confidence that we were moving in the right direction,” he said.
“We’ll have to see what (the vision) looked like from (Sunday’s game), but from memory it was just a lot of basics that we did really poorly.
“We didn’t play wet weather footy and North did.
“They moved the ball and just surged it forward in typical wet conditions and they got some scores off our errors.”
The Swans will need to turn their form around quickly, with 2013 grand finalists Fremantle next to visit the SCG on Easter Saturday.
Despite recent form, Jack said he felt positive that the Swans could make the required changes to bounce back at home this weekend.
“We’re confident (we can turn it around),” he said.
“We’ve done it before and we’ve got a group that we know is competitive and we’ve got a group we know can get us to where we need to get to, but at the moment we’re in a bit of a slump.
“We need to work together extremely hard to get out of it … and we’ve just got to bind together and find a way.”
The co-captain said he drew confidence from the Swans’ rocky finish to the 2012 home and away season, where the team lose three of their last four matches of the season.
“Being 1-3 is not a great start, but that’s just the position we’re in,” he said.
“We’ve lost games in the past and have lost a couple in a row, but we’ve managed to find our way back.
“I think we lost three of four heading into a finals series in 2012 and we found a way back and we can do it again.”
