Sydney Swans defender Zak Jones will be monitored throughout the week as he recovers from a heavy knock suffered during Sunday's NEAFL Grand Final.
Jones was stretchered from the ground after being knocked out in an accidental head clash during the final quarter.
Jones was one of his team's better players before he collided with Giants forward Sam Reid in the final quarter of the match, which the Swans lost to the Giants by four points.
Swans NEAFL coach Rhyce Shaw said Jones, who with Laidler was a front-runner to replace Mills in the senior side next week, would be assessed further during the week.
"He's sitting up, I think he's aware of what's going on," Shaw said.
"It was a pretty heavy collision but the doctor will stay with him and we'll just weigh it up in the morning (Monday).
"I think he was (knocked) out but I'm not sure."
Ruckman Toby Nankervis is in line to return after he was withdrawn from the club's NEAFL Grand Final.
Jeremy Laidler was also pulled out of the NEAFL decider against the Giants on Sunday in a sign he is the most likely replacement for Mills.
Shaw said if Jones wasn't cleared to play next week, and Laidler was overlooked, the Swans have plenty of options waiting for an opportunity, with Brandon Jack, Harry Cunningham and Dean Towers all solid contributors in the reserves' decider.
"I think we've got a number of players (to replace Mills), and that’s the beauty of our side," he said.
"We try and prepare them for senior footy and (Zak) Jones is certainly one of those players who'd be right in contention to go into the side next week.
"It's a really privileged position that we're in to have such depth."
