Sydney Swans ruck Ally Morphett has earned an AFLW Rising Star nominees for Round 1 of the 2023 NAB AFLW Season, after a best-on-ground performance in the club's historic win over the GWS GIANTS.
Morphett had 29 hit-outs, 18 disposals, seven clearances, l16 contested possessions, six inside-50s, 407 metres-gained, and one goal in an emphatic comeback victory and the first in club history.
The win set euphoric scenes in-front of 5,474 members and fans at North Sydney Oval, with Morphett also polling 10 coaches votes for her standout display.
Morphett's 29 hit-outs and 16 contested possessions are the most registered by a Sydney Swans player in an AFLW game, and spoke of her pride in the team's performance that ultimately paved the way for victory.
“I feel incredibly proud to be nominated but I couldn’t have done it without the help of my team-mates,” Morphett said.
“It was such a special game and knowing that we were part of history is something that we will never forget.”

Ally Morphett produced one of the best performances of her career in our Round 1 win over the GIANTS.
The 19-year-old has played 17 games across her career, averaging 14 hit-outs per game.
The Sydney Swans traded pick 29 with the GWS GIANTS before Season Seven to secure the young ruck. She was initially drafted with pick 37 from the Murray Bushrangers in the 2022 AFLW Draft.
Morphett played junior footy with East Wagga–Kooringal and community footy with Belconnen Magpies in the AFL Canberra league.
Morphett shared the Round 1 nomination with West Coast Eagles’ Ella Roberts.
