Coach's Comments: Kristie Whittard
“We just wanted to come out and play footy. Obviously we had messages around the pressure, and messages around their contest and shape around the footy but really it was just to play to their strengths. We want to see them bring a little bit of flair and independence to their game plan and make sure that they get out there and tick their own boxes."
U13 Boys - defeated by the Giants by 31 points
QBE Sydney Swans Academy 4.2.26
Giants Academy 8.9.57
Best: Percy Lucas, William Boatman, Rafael Micheletti, Riley Steadman, Mac Seebeck, Spencer Millington
Goals: Mac Seebeck, Bae Gilligan, Marcus Strback
Coach comments: Graeme Hill
"They got out of the blocks on us a little, the wind was also pretty significant out there today. The second half we got a bit more shape and understood a bit better about what we were doing. We may have even won the second half. I was pleased with the way the boys got a bit more aggressive around the ball and their skills started to show a bit more and shut down the opposition a bit better. I was happy overall, lots to work on for tomorrow, but I think we are on the way up."
U15 Girls - defeated by Giants by 6 points
QBE Sydney Swans Academy 4.6.30
Giants Academy 5.6.36
Best: Frances Walsh, Heidi de Saxe, Ash Barlow, Elizabeth Yates, Camryn Harland, Emily Hodge
Goals: Frances Walsh, Emily Hodge, Evie Charles, Zahli Blattman
Coach comments: Kathryn Hull
"The girls really did well in coming back and reacting and we were able to change that momentum from each quarter. In our next game we are hoping to make some smarter decisions with the footy. We had a lot of it and our use around the contest was good. But it’s just making those smarter options and choices with a bit more talk, a bit more composure and presentation as well so we can give support to the ball user."
Under 15 Boys- defeated the Giants by 43 points
QBE Sydney Swans Academy 10.10.70
GWS Academy 4.3.27
Goals: Thomas Coughlin 4, Ben Pignatelli 2, Max Jans 1, Ned Lucas 1, Lincoln Chambers 1, Ethan Kingsley 1
Best: Leon Titmuss, Max Jans, Alex Norris, Guy Jenkin, Thomas Coughlin, William Jenkin
Coach comments: Shane McGahan
"The message was to play our style of game and pressure them when they had the ball and get forward as quick as we could. I think the boys were outstanding today in the pressure they put on the Giants and they got the rewards in what was a really tough day with the wind and the heat. The guys stuck at it all day and kept working as hard as they could. The way they stuck together as a team is a big reason we won, our teamwork was superior and that showed and I think they are only going to get better."
Matches continue tomorrow with the U13s in action again and the U14s playing their first games.
