The Sydney Swans have informed Ryan Clarke, Will Gould, Hugo Hall-Kahan, Cameron Owen, Lachlan Rankin and Marc Sheather that they will not be offered new contracts with the club for the 2024 season.
Clarke arrived at the Swans from North Melbourne in the 2019 off season and went on to play 57 games in the red and white. A selfless and popular member of the squad, Clarke played valuable roles for the team across his 4 seasons, including the 2022 Grand Final team.
Gould (4 games) arrived at Sydney via the 2019 NAB AFL Draft and Sheather (3 games) as a Rookie elevation in 2020 from the Sydney Swans academy. They both made their AFL debuts in 2023 but were unable to cement their spots in the senior team. Gould won the Club’s VFL player of the year award in 2022.
Sheather’s time at the Club was significantly impacted by injury, with the hard working Academy product unfortunately suffering multiple bone stress injuries, including a foot injury mid-way through the year, which severely limited his opportunities.
Rankin (taken with pick 58 in the 2021 NAB AFL Draft), Hall-Kahan (taken with pick 11 in the 2022 NAB mid-season Rookie Draft) and Owen (taken with pick 17 in the 2022 Rookie Draft), were consistent performers at VFL level where they spent time developing their games.
Sydney Swans Executive General Manger – Football, Charlie Gardiner, wished all six players the very best.
“This time of the year is always tough when difficult list management decisions need to be made."
“Ryan, Will, Marc, Lachie, Hugo and Cam have all made valuable contributions to the Swans. We are very grateful for their hard work and dedication to our football program."
“On behalf of everyone at the Club, we wish each player all the very best for their futures and we hope they continue to work towards maximising their football potential.”
