Sydney put on a perfect day for the 2014 Sydney Swans Fan Day presented by Volkswagen at the Entertainment Quarter on Sunday.
The sun was shining as thousands of red and white fans turned out for the annual event, which was attended by the entire Swans’ playing group.
Autographs and photos were the order of the day for many fans, who also enjoyed the array of activities on site including the Volkswagen Putt Putt and Club Song Car, handball and kicking challenges as well as the QBE Zoo Mobile and Nova 969 marquee.
Fans flocked to Lance ‘Buddy’ Franklin to get their first photo with the big-name recruit, while fan favorites Adam Goodes, Lewis Roberts-Thomson and Rhyce Shaw were surrounded by loyal fans all day.
Swans co-captain Jarrad McVeigh, who helped man Volkswagen Putt Putt station, said event was the perfect opportunity for the players to catch up with the club’s biggest fans.
“It’s been great,” McVeigh said.
“It’s a great opportunity for our members and supporters to meet and greet the players.
“We love coming out here and putting on a great day for the fans.
“The weather held up for us and we’ve all really enjoyed the day.”
One fan who had a memorable experience at this year’s event was Stacey Bark, who was the lucky winner of Volkswagen Fan Day competition.
Stacey and a group of friends won the opportunity to be chauffeured to the event by Kurt Tippett and Alex Johnson in the comfort of a Volkswagen Caravelle.
Stacey was also lucky enough to receive an exclusive tour of SwansHQ by Swans players Nick Smith and Gary Rohan, before travelling across to the Entertainment Quarter for the Fan Day festivities.
Volkswagen Brand Communications Manager Peter Stewart said Volkswagen were proud partners of the annual Fan Day event.
“Fan Day is incredibly important to Volkswagen,” he said.
“It’s a day where we get to connect with the fans and give back to the fans and celebrate the wonderful club the Sydney Swans are.
“We’re really looking forward to the season ahead.”
