The Sydney Swans would like to thank Aliesha Newman for her contribution to the club, following a trade with the GWS Giants.
The 28-year-old joined the club at its inception in the AFLW in 2022, going on to play 19 games in the red and white, including her 50th game milestone.
The medium forward kicked seven goals for the Swans in the 2023 season, and averaged five disposals per game.
Newman played an important role for the Swans not only on the field but off it as well, designing the club’s inaugural AFLW Indigenous Round guernsey as a proud Ningy Ningy woman.
Whilst Newman was unable to wear the guernsey during Indigenous Round due to injury, she would go on to don it in the Sydney Swans Elimination Final victory over the Gold Coast Suns.
Sydney Swans Executive General Manager – Kate Mahony, thanked Newman for her two years at the club.
“Aliesha has been a wonderful contributor of the Swans, and as a senior player has been a great leader and influence for our younger players.”
“Aliesha provided the Swans with exciting moments on the field for our fans and members. She also did a wonderful job in designing our inaugural Marn Grook guernsey, which will remain a special part of the club’s history.”
“We wish Aliesha all the best with her future in the AFLW.”
The Sydney Swans will receive pick 30 for the upcoming AFLW Draft from the GIANTS, in exchange for Aliesha Newman and pick 34.
