Peter Weinert officially opens the Sydney Swans Museum in his name with QBE Sydney Swans Academy athletes.

Last week, the Sydney Swans officially opened the Peter Weinert Museum at Sydney Swans HQ.

Located at the Sellers & Colless Centre – Sydney Swans HQ in Moore Park – the museum is named in honour of Peter Weinert, a Sydney Swans Life Member and former president.

The museum welcomes visitors Monday through Friday from 10am to 4pm and on Sydney Swans home game days at the SCG.

Swans fans and members can immerse themselves in Sydney Swans history with the interactive displays, captivating memorabilia and rare artefacts.

Speaking to Sydney Swans Media at the official opening event, Weinert said the name humbled him.

"It's pride obviously, and humility, I think there's so many people that have gone before me and have done things for this club and to get an honour like this is absolutely incredible and I'm very, very proud," Weinart said.

"lt's 41 years I've been involved and it's probably just knowing the background, the history and the passion of everything that goes into making the club what it is and the ups and downs," Weinart said.

"It's the periods of sacrifices and the difficult times that when you come through and you just never give up, that it suddenly becomes something very valuable and it's a passion that just grows."

Sydney captain Callum Mills said the museum was a fantastic way to strengthen the connection between the Club's past and present.

"I think the Club's always done a really good job in acknowledging the history and passing on the stories to us as current players," Mills said.

"To see how it's panned out in the museum is fantastic, and it's a constant reminder for us as current players the importance of what the Club's been through and to be where it is now and what's gone before us.

"Some of the memorabilia in there is incredible, we heard tonight the generosity of people in donating or if it's on loan or however they've come to us, but as people have said, to entrust the club in looking after it and putting it on show for everyone in such a special way is really cool."
