The Sydney Swans are calling on all fans to help set a new world record for the number of people wearing Red Noses in one place at Saturday night’s match against Collingwood at ANZ Stadium.

To help promote the World Record attempt, the Swans playing group donned red noses before yesterday’s training session on the SCG.

Speaking to SwansTV, senior coach John Longmire said the Club was fortunate to be able to promote the cause and raise awareness of the achievements SIDS and Kids have made in the general community.

“We take our role in the community really seriously and it’s a great privilege for us to be involved with a cause as worthy as what SIDS and Kids is,” Longmire said.

“It affects a lot of people and it’s important that we do some more research and help those people who are directly involved.”

SIDS and Kids NSW General Manager, Ros Richardson, said the organisation was thrilled to have the support of the Sydney Swans and eagerly anticipated the Record - which currently stands at 15,900 Red Noses - falling on Saturday night.

“What we do is really vitally important in the community and we’re very serious about our work,” Ms Richardson said.

“We’re really trying to have a lot of fun with our fundraising and awareness raising, and this relationship with the Sydney Swans is really very exciting and a great way to celebrate Red Nose Day…and we’re very excited about the World Record attempt.”

Over the past 20 years, the incidents of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome have been reduced by over 85 per cent, but Ms Richardson says there is still much more work for the SIDS and Kids organisation to do.

“Stillbirth - where a baby is sadly born dead - happens now ten times as often as SIDS does,” she said.

“Throughout Australia, six families a day, and two families per day in New South Wales, experience stillbirth, so we have a lot more work to do.”

Longmire said the players fully understand and support the cause, and would be doing their best to complete the experience by upsetting reigning premiers Collingwood in Saturday night’s marquee game.

“Hopefully we get a great crowd along there, all wearing their red noses, and we’ll be doing our best to be as competitive as we can and hopefully come over the line with a win at the end of the night,” he said.

Tickets for Saturday night’s match are available through www.ticketek.com.au. Fans are encouraged to pre-purchase a red nose, or pick one up at the gates at ANZ Stadium on the night.
