The Sydney Swans’ tall forwards led the way in the club’s 129-point demolition of GWS at the SCG on Sunday afternoon.

The Swans finished the match with seven multiple goalkickers, including four players – Kurt Tippett, Mike Pyke, Jesse White and midfielder Tom Mitchell – who kicked three goals apiece.

Speaking to SwansTV following the big victory, Tippett said the Swans were thrilled to have produced a consistent, four-quarter performance against GWS.

“It was very fun out there today,” he said.

“We played well as a side and we wanted to put in a good performance and we were able to do that.

“I thought our pressure really put them on the back foot and I think that’s the way we’ve got to keep playing.

“The good sides these days play four quarters of hard football and we need to be one of those (sides), so that was great practice for us today.”

Tippett’s 3.5 goal effort on Sunday afternoon was his biggest goal haul since pulling on the red and white jumper in round 13 this season.

Following three two-goal performances, Tippett said he felt his effort today was a sign that he was building into some good form.

“I’m getting there slowly and I’m building into it,” he said.

“I just try to bring that energy and enthusiasm and settle into the side and understand how everyone plays.

“I’m looking to build each week and get better.”

Sunday’s match was also the first Sydney Derby for the former Crow, who said he enjoyed the Harbour City’s newest rivalry.

“I did enjoy the experience,” he said.

“It was a tough one for me today but we had some great players in Pykey and Jesse playing up forward with Sam Reid out, so it’s working really well.”

White also enjoyed his first Sydney Derby on Sunday, and celebrated the occasion with three goals after being substituted into the game for the injured Ben McGlynn at half-time.

White, who was recalled to the side this week in place of Reid, told SwansTV that his focus was to make an impact in this week’s match.

“To play was pretty good and I knew that I was coming in as a sub, so I thought I’d just wait for my time and just make sure I had an impact on the game,” he said.

“I think I did, so it was good, and I enjoyed it.”

The 25-year-old, who collected nine possessions, five marks and three goals in a half of football, said he hoped his efforts against GWS would put him in the frame for selection for next Sunday’s clash with West Coast at Patersons Stadium.

“It’s about just competing all day and if I compete all day, most of the time I come out on top, which today I think I did that for the half that I played,” he said.

“Hopefully I’ll push for selection next week.”

Next week’s match is set to be a huge clash, with West Coast looking to secure their place in the competition’s top eight.

Tippett, who will line up for his fifth match of the season, said the Swans would need to bring the same level of performance against the Eagles in Perth next Sunday.

“I think we need to bring the same intensity and just pressure them like we did today,” he said.

“I think that’s the trademark of our game and if we’re able to do that and do that for four quarters then I think it will go a long way.

“We want to be consistent and to do that we need everybody contributing, so that’s the strength of our team and hopefully that continues.”
