As you can imagine, I’m very happy to be selected to play against Adelaide on Sunday.
The last few months have been a real eye-opener for me, since I moved to Sydney full-time to train.
It was a real learning curve, coming from playing school football and doing Year 12 in Melbourne last year, to moving here and understanding what was involved in being in a full-time professional environment.
As Roosy has said today, I had a few hiccups at the end of last year, and I learned pretty quickly what happens if you’re not on your guard.
Back in Melbourne last year, doing school and then getting seven games at the end of the season, it seemed too good to be true. I was only coming up to train in the school holidays, or on Thursdays before games, and I didn’t understand how professional I needed to be.
So in the past 10 weeks I’ve done everything I can to make sure I tick every box and leave no stone unturned to prepare myself to play, and that’s in terms of my fitness, understanding the game plan and just giving myself the best opportunity I can.
Moving to Sydney has made me grow up and be more responsible and more aware of my actions. And a few harsh words from the leadership group and my old man made me realise what I had to do.
So, now I’ve got the opportunity, I’m going to keep it simple and keep working as hard as I possibly can.
