Dan Hannebery has been elevated to the senior side for his first game of the season.

Hannebery comes into the team to play Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Sunday afternoon, while Ted Richards has been omitted.

Hannebery’s selection comes after he picked up 40 possessions in the reserves practice game at ANZ Stadium last Saturday.

Swans coach Paul Roos said 19-year-old Hannebery had worked really hard during the pre-season and deserved a spot in the team.

“He showed last year he is is going to be a class player,’’ Roos said.

“He had a bit of a hiccup in his pre-season, he was throwing eggs and jumping fences and probably not concentrating too much on his footy and it was a bit of a lesson to him.

“He is a terrific kid but it was just a bit of a reminder to him that if you want to get a game that it doesn’t matter what you’ve done last year, if you want to get a game you’ve got to work hard,’’ Roos said.

“He’s really knuckled down post Christmas and his last month has been exceptional.’’

Hannebery played seven matches in 2009, while he was still living in Melbourne and at school doing Year 12.

He has now moved to Sydney full-time and Roos said the benefits were showing in his improved fitness.

Tadhg Kennelly, who was concussed last week against St Kilda, trained strongly.

He said he had felt groggy earlier in the week but had recovered well.
