Sydney Swans duo Aliir Aliir and Callum Sinclair have been cleared of serious damage after suffering ankle injuries in Saturday’s opening JLT Community Series match against Brisbane.

Aliir injured his ankle in the first quarter of Saturday’s clash and took no further part in the game, while Sinclair landed awkwardly in the third quarter and sat out the rest of the match on the bench.

But Head of Football Tom Harley informed SwansTV for this week's HCF Injury Update that results from Monday's scans are both positive.

“Aliir started the game really well but he landed on an opposition player’s foot so he’s got a grade one syndesmosis injury,” Harley told this week’s HCF Injury Update.

“We’ll take a pretty conservative approach so we’ll assess him later in the week. He’s unlikely to play against the Giants but we’ve still got some training sessions to go.

“Callum also rolled his ankle against Brisbane – he had scans today and has some really slight ligament damage. Like Aliir, we’ll be really conservative with Cal as you don’t need to be taking risks in the pre-season.

“We have our main training day on Wednesday before we pick the team, so we’ll assess them both then.”

Meanwhile, Swans stars Heath Grundy, Dan Hannebery and Jarrad McVeigh are all making great progress from their respective pre-season injuries.

While Zak Jones is ready to return for his first match of 2018, as is ruckman Sam Naismith.

“Coming back into selection consideration this week is Zak Jones for his first hit-out of the year after recovering from post-season knee surgery,” Harley said.

“Sam Naismith was a last-minute withdrawal with a tight back against the Lions so while the two that got injured on the weekend may be in doubt, we may have two coming into the team.”
