Thanks to the Sydney Swans Foundation, QBE Insurance, Sydney Cricket and Sports Ground Trust, Hawthorn and all fans for supporting Saturday night's Footy For Drought Relief game.
More than $130,000 was raised for Rural Aid’s Buy A Bale campaign with all money going directly to Australian farmers doing it tough in the country’s drought crisis.
The Sydney Swans Foundation donated $10,000 to the cause, while QBE Insurance donated $10,000 and matched the SCG Trust’s $1 for every supporter in the precinct on Saturday night.
The largest SCG crowd of 2018 so far of 39,660 were in attendance for the Round 23 blockbuster, and a further 13,263 were on hand for the NRL game next door.
QBE’s donation totalled $62,923 while the SCG Trust donated $52,923, with all money going directly to Australian farmers. Supporters also donated on the night through tin rattlers and by texting FOOTY to 0437 371 371.
The total will grow even further in the coming days after Sydney and Hawthorn players’ match-worn signed guernseys are auctioned off at each respective club’s online store.
