Sydney Swans captain Josh Kennedy looks likely to face the Gold Coast on Saturday at the SCG as he overcomes back spasms.
Kennedy left the field after suffering the injury during the second quarter of Sunday’s win over North Melbourne.
Head of Football Tom Harley said he expected the captain to take his place in the side to face the Suns.
“It was a pretty severe and acute back spasm, so it is about identifying the exact spot through the back and loosening the muscles around that.”
“We are expecting Josh to be far more mobile tomorrow and we are expecting him to play.
“We have a main training session two days out from the game and we are looking forward to Josh being a part of that so we are looking forward to him playing this weekend.”
Veteran Kieren Jack is unlikely to be fit to take on the Suns as he continues to battle a medial ligament strain.
Jack suffered the injury in the Round 16 loss to Geelong at the SCG.
Harley said Jack would be given a chance to prove his fitness at a training session later in the week.
“We will give Kieren every opportunity at this stage but with the medial you hit top speed and straight line running which he is getting close to and then you talk about agility," Harley said.
“He may run out of time before the game against the Suns on Saturday.”
