Sydney coach John Longmire has no fears of his side easing into September in this week's final home and away clash against Carlton. 

The Swans are coming off a thrilling three-point win over Adelaide on the road and have dropped just two of their past 15 matches. They go into Saturday's clash with the 15th-placed Blues as overwhelming favourites. 

A large enough victory could propel Longmire's men into the top four if other results go their way, but the coach wasn't keen to talk about hypotheticals on Tuesday, and said he was confident he didn't have to speak to his playing group about the ramifications of a final round loss. 

"We've been fortunate that we've been playing finals for a while and when you get to a point where know you're going to participate, you know you have to finish off the year strongly," he said.

"We've got some experienced boys that understand that it's important we put our best foot forward this week to make sure we put ourselves in the best possible shape we can be in. 

"We've got to go out there and win, that’s the priority for us, against a team that’s been really strong defensively.

"Carlton have been really hard to score against, they beat Hawthorn on the weekend, and they've been in almost every game they've played." 

Despite reports that ruckman Sam Naismith (hip) would be fit to take on the Blues if selected, Longmire said he still had plenty of work to do this week. 

The 25-year-old, who has missed the past three matches, hit the track with the rest of his teammates on Tuesday at the SCG, but will need to also train well on Thursday to have any chance of a call up. 

Longmire said even if Naismith did recover well, he was no guarantee to oust Kurt Tippett or Callum Sinclair from the Swans' final 22, but remained a valuable member of the squad with the finals just over a fortnight away. 

"What happens at the start of the year is everyone talks about the No.1 ruckman and the No.2 ruckman, but I've never subscribed to that at all," he said. 

"It's always about who is playing well at that particular time. 

"All three of those boys have played important roles for us this year, and I'm hoping all three still have important roles to play going forward this year as well."
