Despite letting an opportunity slip in season 2016 co-captain Kieren Jack is adamant his side will rebound bigger and better next year.
The Swans exceeded the pre-season predictions of most experts to win the minor premiership before a 17-point loss to the Western Bulldogs on the Grand Final.
Jack spoke with passion and determination of his desire to lead the current playing group to further improvement in season 2017.
“We certainly know that we missed out on an opportunity,” Jack said.
“It has been a big year. A lot of people didn’t expect us to get into a Grand Final or even play finals.
“Internally we set high expectations and we will continue to do it.”
Coach John Longmire pointed to a number of improvements from the younger Swans brigade in his address at the Club Champion Dinner.
The emergence of Tom Papley, Aliir Aliir, Callum Mills and George Hewett as regular senior players during the season was a key to the Swans success.
Jack admits not being able to lift the premiership cup was a bitter pill to swallow.
“It is hard to reflect now because your lasting memory is of your last game but it has been a great year,” Jack said.
“I have a real sense of excitement for what is to come.
“We will reflect on what has gone on, it is obviously an emotional time but we will stick together and we will face this challenge to come back bigger and better.”
