Sydney Swans pair Callum Mills and Tom Papley will be vying for the AFL Rising Star award when it is announced in Melbourne on Tuesday.
Mills is among the frontrunners to take out the award, while Papley is also expected to poll votes after catching the attention of the judges with his magnificent debut season.
After being rejected by every club before being drafted as a rookie at the end of 2015, Papley has repaid Sydney’s faith during his first season in the red and white.
The 177cm forward was nominated for the Rising Star after he booted two goals and gathered 20 possessions, six inside 50s and eight marks against West Coast in Round 5.
Papley has booted 20 goals from 16 matches this season, averaging 12 disposals and four tackles per game.
19-year-old Mills received his nomination for the award when he was among the best in the Swans 38-point win over Geelong in Round 16.
Among his 23 touches during that match he booted his first goal at AFL level and took six marks.
Rated as one of the most consistent young players in the competition, Mills has averaged 20 disposals a game playing across the half back line.
Mills said he was pleased with how he had performed throughout his debut season.
“My goals were to play as many games as I could. I didn’t want to put a number on it at the start of the season because I didn’t know how it would all pan out,” Mills said.
“To have played as many games as I have at the moment is something special and I am really grateful for it.
“Hopefully this year I can go a couple more.”
The winner of the Rising Star award is expected to be announced at approximately 2.30pm on Tuesday afternoon.
