There are set to be a number of stars grace the SCG turf for Saturday night's semi final between the Sydney Swans and Adelaide Crows.

With plenty on the line and a tight contest looming, it could be the individual brilliance of one player that gets his team over the line.

We take a look at some of the most important players to keep an eye on during the do-or-die final against the Crows.

Eddie Betts
Betts is currently one of the most exciting small forwards in the competition, possessing an ability to kick a goal from any position on the field. His third season at the Crows has been, by far, his best with a bag of tricks that few could match. Betts heads into Saturday night’s semi final in some of his best form following a six-goal haul against North Melbourne in the elimination final. His task will get tougher this week though, with All Australian defender Nick Smith favoured to mind the Crows' livewire. Smith has the wood over Betts who averages just one goal a game against the Swans over his career. He did however kick four goals in the Round 4 match between the two sides at the Adelaide Oval.

Lance Franklin
It is rare to see the star forward down for long so, with Buddy having the first goalless final of his career against the Giants last weekend, expect him to come out firing. He has had a remarkable season to date booting 74 goals including a haul of four against the Crows in Round 4. Franklin loves the SCG and back on his home deck, he'll have the confidence to load up from long range. In-form Adelaide defender Daniel Talia is expected to get the job of trying to shut down the All Australian centre half-forward. The Swans will be hoping that Buddy can provide them with the spark required to counter the Crows and progress to the preliminary final on Saturday night.

Rory Sloane
Adelaide's vice-captain has gone from strength to strength since Patrick Dangerfield's departure at the end of last season. Sloane has averaged a career-high 25 disposals per game this season as one of the elite midfielders in the competition. With the centre clearances set to be a key factor in determining the winner on Saturday night, the influence of Sloane will be crucial for the Crows' chances. There will be no easy position for Sloane on Saturday night with Swans on-baller Tom Mitchell the man likely to get the job of shutting down their best midfielder. Not only influential around the contest but Sloane also has the ability to receive, run with and carry the football on the outside.

Dane Rampe
It will be interesting to see who the All Australian defender lines up on at the first bounce. Rampe is one of the most versatile defenders in the competition, with an ability to match most forwards for pace plus the height to play on talls. He will most likely partner Heath Grundy to share the task of shutting down Adelaide's key forwards Taylor Walker and Josh Jenkins. He was below his best against the Giants on the weekend after Jeremy Cameron booted four goals on him. The New South Wales local will be determined to bounce back in front of his beloved SCG crowd. The added beauty of Rampe rebounding from the half-back line and his use inside 50 will be vital to the Swans kicking a winnable score to bury the Crows.

Sam Jacobs

In the absence of Kurt Tippett, Sam Jacobs' task may look a little easier on paper but he will still be in for a tough night against Sam Naismith. Standing 206cm, the Swans' ruckman has not missed a match since Round 16 and has taken on some of the best ruckmen in the competition. Jacobs is a vital cog in the Crows' midfield as they look to gain the ascendancy through a midfield boasting Sloane, Brad Crouch and Scott Thompson. Jacobs is likely to ruck the majority of the contest solo, with some support from Josh Jenkins when required.
