Sydney Swans coach John Longmire spoke to the media ahead of our Round 5 clash against West Coast at the SCG on Saturday.
We take a look at some of the key quotes from the coach leading into this weekend’s match.
Sinclair facing his old side
“Obviously a lot of people do it, he still has a lot of good friends there just as Lewis Jetta has a lot of good friends here. It happens more and more in modern footy these days and he is looking forward to the opportunity as I am sure Jetts is.”
Sinclair’s importance
“He is important for us. We thought Toby Nankervis did a pretty good job for us last week but if Callum plays this week he has shown the ability to be able to go forward and kick goals which he has been able to do over a period of time. He gives us some flexibility there and so far he has been very good for us in terms of in the ruck and going forward.”
Nic Naitanui planning
“Naitanui is one of the premier ruckman in the competition and his centre bounce stuff is extraordinary. His ability to get his hand on the ball and allow the West Coast midfielders to get proactive on a consistent basis is quite unique. We understand the strengths that he's got and particularly that midfield group, but we're confident our midfield group and our rucks can give a really good contest in that part of the ground, and hopefully give our boys a bit of a look at it as well."
Kieren Jack’s health
“He is pretty good today. He has to train and get through training but generally he has been ok.”
Return of Priddis
“He is a Brownlow Medalist, he is a real spiritual leader of that group so his ability to get his hand on the ball and play a good hard contested brand of footy is respect across the competition and in particularly by us. Our midfield group has been in reasonable form and against their midfield group that has also been in pretty reasonable form, and will be strengthened by Priddis coming back, it's a really important battle.
West Coast’s current team
“They've been very good, they're a strong team, they've got a great balance across the board. They haven't got many weaknesses and they're a quality team. They've got an unbelievable forward line, a super midfield and a really well-structured, organised defence."
Bouncing back after a loss
“Every game you play it is important to win. It is important to play a consistent brand of football whenever you play because over the journey that is what stands up. Our aim is to serve up another consistent performance this week and get it right when we need to.”
