After both being cleared of any major structural damage, key pair Callum Sinclair and Nick Smith will face fitness tests this week in a bid to take on Essendon on Saturday at the SCG.
Sinclair was cleared of ligament damage after hyper-extending his knee in the dying stages of Sunday’s win over Brisbane at the Gabba.
General Manager of Football Tom Harley said the 26-year-old would have to prove his fitness at the team’s final training session on Thursday.
“Callum had a scan that showed some bone bruising so he will be on a low load early in the week,” Harley told the HCF injury update.
“At this stage he is down as a test so we hope he gets up.”
Smith was a late withdrawal from the side that defeated the Lions due to a knee complaint.
After spending a few days on the sidelines, the All Australian defender is expected to face the Bombers.
“Scans have come back clear with Nick so we will have a view to test him later in the week at training on Thursday."
Sam Reid has re-joined the main training group as he continues to make good progress in his recovery from a hamstring injury.
Reid will put in a strong week on the training track before coming into consideration to return through the NEAFL next weekend.
