One thousand dollars is on its way to the Eastlake Football Club after they were announced as one of ten recipients of this year’s Volkswagen Grassroots Grants program.
The club will be putting the money towards purchasing new guernseys for their senior women’s and youth girls teams.
Eastlake’s women’s program is regarded as one of the most successful in the ACT, having won eight out of the last 18 premierships.
The team is currently first on the AFL Canberra ladder with an imposing 10-1 win-loss record as they aim to defend their premiership.
Eastlake Football Manager Stephen Soulsby says the club is thankful for receiving this year’s Volkswagen Grassroots Grant.
"At any level, if you're able to get some support from the AFL clubs and their sponsors, it certainly goes a long way to help continue to develop grassroots football around the country," Eastlake football manager Stephen Soulsby told the Canberra Times.
"Anything we can do to continue to promote the game and promote women's footy in particular is always a bonus."
