Tom Mitchell has capped off an outstanding 2015 by winning the Dennis Carroll Trophy as Most Improved Player at Friday night’s Club Champion Dinner.
The 22-year-old, now with three seasons under his belt, played a significant role within the Swans’ classy and more experienced midfield this year to finish ninth in the Bob Skilton Medal count at The Star Events Centre.
The performance was a significant step-up from last season where the prolific ball winner managed just six senior matches.
Mitchell’s rise was even more impressive having to ply his trade in the first three rounds of the NEAFL season before earning a senior spot in Round 5 against the Western Bulldogs.
And there Mitchell would stay, missing just one game (through injury) on his way to averaging 27 disposals and six tackles by season end.
First awarded in 1989, Mitchell follows in the footsteps of some notable names to have won the Dennis Carroll Trophy including Luke Parker, Jarrad McVeigh, Ryan O’Keefe, Leo Barry and Paul Kelly.
