Kieren Jack is preparing to spend more time forward next season as the club looks to inject several young players into the midfield.
Since his debut in 2007 Jack has played several roles transitioning from a tagging midfielder to a ball winner that sets up his teammates.
Entering his 11th season in the red and white the former skipper is excited about the prospect of helping some of the clubs emerging stars move into the middle of the ground.
“With the young players that we have coming through I look forward to being able to help them transition,” Jack said.
“I look at Isaac Heeney, Zak Jones and Callum Mills who I really want to be a part of the midfield in the future.
“Maybe that means at times I am going to have to spend some time forward.”
A potential change in role based on the rise of Heeney, Jones and Mills sits comfortably with the former captain.
Jack is licking his lips at the prospect of spending more time alongside Coleman Medallist Lance Franklin.
“You look at some of the players that we have got down there in Kurt Tippett and Bud then if I am the small down there getting to their feet I should get a few opportunities,” he said.
Jack is confident the decision over the pre-season for Josh Kennedy to take over the role of captain will be a positive for the group.
“Josh is absolutely deserving of it because he deserves a chance to sit in the chair and realise what that is like to be a captain,” Jack said.
“To be there for four years was a real privilege and something I will definitely look back on with memories.
“I think Jarrad and I can still help Josh along the way.”
