SPECULATION about Tadhg Kennelly’s potential return to the Sydney Swans is set to intensify after the 2005 premiership player fulfilled his dream of winning an All-Ireland Gaelic football medal on Sunday.

Kennelly scored twice before being substituted in the second half as Kerry defeated Cork by four points to claim this year’s trophy at Croke Park in Dublin.

Swans coach Paul Roos was in the stands to watch as his former charge followed in the footsteps of his late father, Tim, and his brother Noel to become an All-Ireland winner with Kerry.

Kennelly left the Swans at the start of 2009 with a year remaining on his contract to pursue his dream.

Roos has made no secret of the fact that the club is willing to discuss a return to the Swans by the popular 158-game veteran.

The dashing Irish defender was the only one of six departed players not to be honoured by a video tribute at the Swans’ club champion dinner last Friday night.

However, Roos said earlier this month that he had no intention of raising the matter with Kennelly while he was in Ireland.

“I want him to have a successful game and to really focus on his games and his dreams,” he said before heading to Dublin.

“If at some time in the future he wants to bring it up, I’m certainly happy to talk and see where he’s at and where his body is and what he’s thinking.”

Even if Kennelly indicated he wanted to resume his AFL career, Roos said the club would need to ensure that he was fit enough, both physically and mentally.

“He’d want to do that as well,” Roos said.

“I know him well enough to know that he wouldn’t want to come back and play AFL footy if he’s not physically and mentally up to it.”
