Sydney Swans fans can expect to see a competitive brand of football and continual development from their side in season 2020.

That is the message from senior coach John Longmire as his side enjoy a couple of weeks rest from training before returning to ramp up preparations ahead of the new season.

Sydney finished the 2019 season in fifteenth position on the ladder with eight wins for the season and missed the finals for the first time in a decade.

“We just want to go out there and play a competitive brand of football every week,” Longmire said.

“We want to make sure that we continue to see the youth that is coming through our team to give our supporters some real hope in what we can achieve.

“That is what we want to do; play a competitive brand of football that we know stands up, be able to win the close ones and be able to bring on that next generation of players.”

Longmire said the addition of some key talent throughout the off-season including Lewis Taylor and Sam Gray had him excited about the state of the club’s list.

“We feel as though we have a strong and exciting list that has got the potential to keep improving,” he said.

“We are going to be working really hard to be able to do that but regardless of what I say it is about what we do and that is what we are about as a coaching team and a playing group.”

“We will be working hard to maximise our improvement that we know we need to do.”

Sydney Swans players return to training to prepare for the 2020 season on Friday, January 10.
