Last time they met

The Swans came into the round six fixture having won all of their home games of the season and looking to add to that record with a win against the Tigers. Richmond on the other hand were desperate to post back to back wins after failing to take home the four premiership points in their first four matches.

It was the Swans that looked hungry early racing out to a 23-point lead at quarter-time, with the highlight of the term the ruck-work by Canadian Mike Pyke in his first AFL game. To compound the Tigers’ woes, Matthew Richardson appeared to tweak his hamstring and started the second quarter on the bench.

The Swans held a comfortable five goal lead at the main change, before an after-the-siren major by Angus Graham reduced the deficit to 27 points.

The Tigers’ resurgence started early in the third term as Richardson returned to the field and speedster Robin Nahas kicked an electrifying goal. With the Swans leading by nine points midway through the final quarter, Martin Mattner's heroic diving tackle on Jack Riewoldt as he ran into open goal ended the Tigers' comeback efforts and ensured a 19-point victory for the home side.
