The Sydney Swans return to the SCG this weekend and so will a limited number of fans, after the Swans were granted approval to host patrons at the stadium.
It comes ahead of Sydney’s Round 2 clash with Essendon at the SCG this Sunday at 3:35pm.
The NSW Government has granted approval in line with regulations that came into effect on June 1 for restaurants, pubs and cafes.
The SCG is able to accommodate up to 350 fans across a number of function spaces, but the mix of members and corporate partners is still to be determined.
Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley said there has been a lot of work behind the scenes to make the opportunity possible.
“We’re thrilled to be able to welcome some of our members and partners back to the SCG this Sunday,” Harley said.
“When the return-to-play date was announced we thought having spectators in stadium would be a long way off, and while we would clearly love to be opening the game to all of our members and supporters, we know that this will be special for both the team and for those who are able to attend.
“The distribution of tickets and how members will be selected still needs to be worked through, but we are committed to providing an opportunity for members this weekend and for the remainder of the season.
“We have always said we would be guided by government and health authorities, and we would like to extend our thanks to the NSW Government and the AFL for their support in bringing this to life.”
More information on the ticket selection process will be communicated to members in the coming days.
The Sydney Swans take on Essendon on Sunday, June 14 at 3.35pm at the SCG #Bloods2020.
