Time trials, hill climbs, meetings and massages have become the norm for the Sydney Swans’ new draftees, who arrived at the club this week.

The four new Swans, Zak Jones, George Hewett, Toby Nankervis and Aliir Aliir, were all thrown into the thick of it on Monday morning, beginning with an early morning fitness session, skills, yoga and an afternoon team meeting.

Tuesday was a lighter day for the new boys, who completed skills and weights sessions in the morning before enjoying some free time in the afternoon.

The group enjoyed their first taste of team lunches on Monday and Wednesday and also settled in with their new Swans housemates in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.

Speaking to SwansTV about his first week at the club, second round draftee Toby Nankervis, who made the move from Georgetown, Tasmania to the Harbour City this week, said he felt he was settling in well at his new club.

“It has just been a whirlwind couple of days I suppose and I was a bit nervous when I first turned up not knowing anyone, but the boys have really made me feel welcome now,” Nankervis told SwansTV.

“It’s a lot different from Tassie I suppose and I’m still adjusting, but I’m well on my way I think.

“They have sort of just eased us into it and there are long days and that, but I know it’s only going to get tougher but I’m ready for it.”

Fellow draftee Aliir Aliir, who made the trip from Perth on Sunday night, said he too was enjoying his first week at the Swans.

“It’s been unreal,” he said.

“It’s been great, all of the boys have been welcoming and my housemates have been pretty good so I’m really loving being at the club.”

A long-time Swans fan with family living in Sydney’s western suburbs, Aliir said the club already felt like a home away from home.

“I just love the club, I’m a Sydney Swans supporter so to be able to get drafted here is just unreal,” he said.

“I love Sydney, the city is good and I’ve got family around here so I’m loving it.”
