The Sydney Swans have regained Lance Franklin and Dan Hannebery for Saturday night’s blockbuster clash with Port Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval.

Franklin comes back into the side after missing last week’s win over Essendon with knee tendonitis, while Hannebery will play his first match since round 13 after battling an ankle syndesmosis injury.

Going out of the side are Dean Towers, who has played three senior games since making his AFL debut in round 17, and Tim Membrey, who made his debut last week.

Speaking to SwansTV for Centrum Team Selection, John Longmire said Franklin trained strongly on Thursday and was fit and ready to return on Saturday night.

“He was fine at training today and was able to do all the training and looked good afterwards,” he said.

“He’s pulled up well, which is a good sign and he’ll be right to play.”

After missing six matches with an ankle injury, Longmire said Hannebery’s return was also a positive for the Swans this week.

The coach backed the 23-year-old to have an immediate influence in his first game back, and said he would add some vital run to the Swans midfield.

“He comes back into the team with his running ability and he’s a naturally fit player, so it’s important to get him back in the team,” he said.

“We expect him to have an impact and that’s why we’ve picked him.

“We’ve got him in the team to come in and contribute, and whatever that role is, he needs to make sure he does that.

“We’re confident that he’s an experienced senior player and that he can come back into the team and give us some real run.”

With Franklin and Hannebery returning to the side, Longmire said Towers and Membrey will return to the Swans reserves, who face the Gold Coast Suns reserves in Blacktown on Saturday morning.

The coach said both players had impressed during their respective time in the seniors, and would be better for the experience.

“Dean Towers has played a couple of games for us now and we’ve been pleased with how he’s gone in those games,” Longmire said.

“He’s learnt a lot in that exposure to senior football for the very first time, as would have Tim Membrey last week.

“(For Membrey) to come in and play senior football against Essendon and to play on Dustin Fletcher and learn a bit more about the game was really important.

“He was good early in the game in particular, and he will be better for the experience.”

The coach stressed that the Swans would need to be at their best in Saturday night’s match against a Port Adelaide side who will be keen to bounce back after suffering a six-point loss to Collingwood last week.

“We know Port are a very capable team,” Longmire said.

“No one is on the top of the ladder for as long as they are without being really good and really talented.

“We expect a pretty fierce crowd at Adelaide Oval this week and we expect a really fierce Port Adelaide.”

Port Adelaide has made three changes for Saturday night with Jackson Trengove, Jake Neade and Kane Mitchell returning in place of Paul Stewart, Ben Newton and Jarman Impey.

Stewart, Tom Clurey and Sam Gray are Port's emergencies.
