The Sydney Swans new recruits were officially welcomed to the club at this year’s Guernsey Presentation and Hall of Fame event, but it was not just the players who shared in the experience.

In what was for some their first visit to the club, the parents of the Swans newest recruits were invited to the SCG for an induction and club tour, before heading to the dinner to watch their sons accept their first Sydney Swans guernsey.

The SwansTV ‘Beyond the Boundary’ team were at this year’s induction to catch up with some of the proud parents of the club’s new boys.

“We were thrilled and delighted for him that he was coming to Sydney and to come to the Sydney Swans out of all the clubs that he could have come to was just fantastic,” Sally Dick, the mother of fourth round draftee Matt, told SwansTV.

“When he was picked at number 62 in the draft, it was just incredible and was an amazing feeling and it’s just wonderful for him that he’s come to such an amazing and fantastic club.”

After many year of supporting Matt’s rise through the junior football ranks, Sally said he hoped she would not be overcome by emotion at her son’s first guernsey presentation.

“I just hope I don’t cry because I’m prone to crying when our children do amazing things and to see him walk out on the stage with all those other people in amongst that company will just be almost overwhelming I think,” she said.

“Andrew and I will be filled with pride and we’re so proud of what Matt’s done because it’s been a long road and quite a journey for him.”

Melanie Marsh, who flew across from Perth to see her son Harrison accept his first guernsey, said the Swans had been very welcoming since Marsh’s name was called out in the draft.

“It’s just great and it’s just so welcoming and from the minute Harry got drafted he was getting text messages from his team mates and from everyone at the club, and it’s just been sensational,” she said.

“We know that he’s in a really good place so that makes it all the better.”
