Sydney Swans unselected players pushing for senior selection have put in a strong performance in a scratch match against Greater Western Sydney on Sunday afternoon.
Dylan Stephens and James Bell were among the standouts for the Swans in a shortened contest for the sides as they look to get match fitness into the remainder of their squad.
Development coach Jeremy Laidler said he was impressed with the entire side in Sunday’s match.
“It was a really pleasing match for us to be able to play a consistent brand of football for four quarters was probably the most pleasing thing,” Laidler said.
“All of our players played with a really high intensity and the hit around the contest was at a really high level.
“We started well, GWS responded in the second quarter but to come out after half time and respond the way we did is a great display and they will all grow in confidence from that performance.”
Laidler said it was a great to see an even contribution throughout the match.
“It was a really good balanced match from our side across the board today,” he said.
“Everyone had moments in the game when we needed them to stand up which is probably the most pleasing thing for us as coaches.
“Dylan Stephens and James Bell were two players that really competed all day with their hardness.”
The Swans will look to prepare for a Round 6 match against Richmond at the Gabba on Sunday, July 12.
